Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about SignGuard — how it works, pricing, privacy, technology, and legal limits. Grouped by topic.

Basics & how it works

What is SignGuard and how does it work?

What exactly is SignGuard?
SignGuard is a digital contract manager that analyzes and organizes your contracts with AI. The app detects critical clauses, benchmarks them against market standards, tracks deadlines, and helps you understand your contracts — all within seconds, right on your phone. More about our motivation and the team on the About us page.
How does the contract analysis work?
You upload the contract as a PDF or take a photo of it. SignGuard breaks it down into individual clauses, checks each one against thousands of reference contracts and our own legal database — and rates it with a traffic-light system. Critical points, deadlines, and special terms are shown separately. All in under 30 seconds.
How long does an analysis take?
Usually under 30 seconds. Very long contracts (40+ pages) can take up to a minute.
Which languages does SignGuard work in?
Currently 10 languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, and Russian. More are planned — so your German contract can be explained to you in English.
What makes SignGuard different from ChatGPT or other AI tools?
General AI tools like ChatGPT are prone to hallucinations — they invent plausible-sounding but wrong answers, especially on legal topics. SignGuard was developed with lawyers, uses its own legal databases, and runs on EU servers. And SignGuard isn't a chat — it's a complete contract manager with deadline reminders, a clause traffic light, and a contract library.
Who built the SignGuard AI?
The team is made up of entrepreneurs, AI engineers, and German lawyers (Rechtsanwälte). The clause ratings follow standards worked out together with legal professionals. Details on the About us page.
How accurate is the analysis?
For typical consumer contracts the analysis achieves high precision by benchmarking against thousands of reference contracts and our legal database. The traffic-light rating reflects what is market-standard — it is not a legal ruling. For your specific case, a lawyer remains the final authority.
Who it's for & which contracts

Is SignGuard right for my contract?

Who is SignGuard for?
Anyone who signs contracts — tenants, employees, self-employed professionals, freelancers, creators, families, and people starting their careers in Germany. Especially valuable if you manage several contracts in parallel (e.g. landlords with multiple flats or creators with many brand deals).
Which contract types are supported?
More than 10 types: rental contracts, employment contracts (including termination agreements), mobile phone contracts, subscriptions, standard terms (AGB), freelancer and influencer contracts, purchase agreements, loan agreements, and insurance contracts. New types are added regularly.
Does SignGuard support business contracts too?
Yes, B2B contracts (framework agreements, service, license, and NDA contracts) are analyzed as well. The clause rating takes the B2B context into account.
Does SignGuard support PDFs and photos?
Yes. Upload the contract as a PDF or photograph it directly. SignGuard uses OCR to reliably read photographed pages, too.

Legal & limits

What SignGuard can — and can't — do

Does SignGuard provide legal advice?
No. SignGuard does not provide legal advice and does not replace a lawyer. The app benchmarks clauses against market standards and highlights anything unusual. For specific legal questions about your individual case, a lawyer remains the right person to ask — SignGuard prepares you thoroughly for that conversation. With the Lawyer Check you can even do it straight from the app: if the risk is high, you forward your contract to an independent lawyer, with a free initial assessment.
What is the Lawyer Check?
The Lawyer Check is the bridge from the AI analysis to a real lawyer: if SignGuard detects a high risk in your contract, you can forward it, together with a case summary, to an independent lawyer licensed in Germany (Rechtsanwalt) with one tap — via a referral through the advocado partner network. The lawyer doesn't start from zero: your contract and the AI pre-analysis are already on their desk. All details on the Lawyer Check page.
How much does the Lawyer Check cost?
The lawyer's initial assessment is free and non-binding. If the lawyer can take the case further for you, you receive a fixed-price offer with all costs itemized — you only pay if you explicitly accept it. If you decline, you owe nothing.
What if SignGuard makes a mistake?
No automated tool is error-free. For important decisions we always recommend a second opinion from a lawyer. The analysis is meant as decision support, not as a final legal assessment.
Can I share the analysis with a lawyer?
Yes. Every analysis can be exported as a structured PDF report — the ideal starting point for a conversation with your lawyer. Your lawyer saves time — and you save on fees.
Can I sign contracts directly in the app?
No. SignGuard deliberately focuses on analysis and management — not signing. For digital signatures, use a specialized e-signature service.
